How To Increase The System Tray Icon Size In Kubuntu 20.04

The version of KDE Plasma that is part of Kubuntu 20.04 doesn’t have a GUI to increase the size of System Tray Icons. To increase the System Tray icon size, we may have to edit the KDE plasma config file directly.

To increase the icon size, edit the plasma config file by executing the command

nano ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc

Search for the word “extraItems” by pressing the Ctrl+w keys. This word appears only once in that file, so you can make changes to the first segment where you find this word. Add the config “iconSize=2” as the last line in that segment. After saving and closing the file, log out the machine or kill all plasma instances to reload the UI. If all goes well, the size of the system tray icons would be increased by now.

An upgrade to Plasma may override these settings. In the recent version of Plasma, the size of the system tray icons can be changed in GUI.
